History Of The State Of Wisconsin

Wisconsin was created in the year 1848 as the 30th state admitted to the union. First inhabited by the native Menominee, Kickapoo, Miami and Winnebago peoples, it was not until the year 1634 that the first European set foot on what is now Wisconsin today. An explorer named Jean Nicolet, a Frenchman accidentally happened on the shores of Wisconsin while searching for the Northwest Passage and claimed possession for his homeland. Not much later, Great Britain claimed this area and many more from the French during the now infamous French and Indian War.

In 1783, the British signed over this land to the newly formed U.S. government. Although Wisconsin was now a part of the U.S., people did not come to settle the land until much later. By the 1820’s the settlers began to arrive at this still wild land and years later, became the 30th state to be a part of the now United States of America.

When the National Park Service was created in 1916, it was created with the intent to safeguard the areas which are important to the natural history as well as the history of the area and to revitalize and preserve the communities around them.

In 1966, the National Register of Historic Places, a smaller part of the NPS was created in order to “coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate and protect America’s historic and archeological resources”..taken from the NPS.gov

Waukesha, like many other towns and cities across America is protecting and preserving their history as well by getting many of the buildings and homes in the city, which are part of the city’s history, preserved for future generations. With a history which dates back thousands of years, and with a European history dating back hundreds, many of the area sites are located within the larger “historical district” of Waukesha.

How To Get Listed

In order for a site to be considered worthy of being listed as a National Historic Place, there are some criteria that must be met such as the property’s age, integrity, and significance. It must be at least 50 years old, represent its look from the past, and have a significance relating to events, activities or developments of the area. At this point, over 85,000 sites and over 13,000 districts included in the list.

October is seeing big changes in airport security. As the Transportation Security Administration continues to find new ways to help speed up and offer more secure travel for billions of travelers that choose to fly each year. Referred to as the TSA Pre or Precheck program, this is the first attempt at a more risk based approach to security as opposed to the one size fits all approach of the past.

What It Is

This is a voluntary program which covers travelers enrolled in Delta’s frequent flier program and three other trusted travel programs including Global Entry, NEXUS, and SENTRI. It includes people who travel through Atlanta, Detroit, Miami and Dallas. Between 5 and 8 thousand travelers daily will be involved for now with the chance for expansion if the program is successful.

How It Works

The traveler who is involved in the program will have to offer more personal information, but in return, will be allowed to travel more freely through security once approved. If a passenger is determined to be eligible for expedited screening, the information will be embedded into the bar code of your boarding pass and you will be directed to the lanes for expedited screening.

As a Pre approved traveler you will be exempt from removing:

• shoes
• 3-1-1 compliant bag from your carry on
• laptop from your bag
• lightweight jacket
• belt

What Is The 3-1-1 Rule

The 3-1-1 Rule is the newest regulation dealing with liquid carry on regulations. In order to prevent large amounts of potentially hazardous liquids, aerosols and gels, TSA has restricted these to much smaller amounts and very specific rules regarding these amounts.

• 3 = All liquids, aerosols and gels must be in 3 ounce or 100 ml or smaller containers. Larger containers are not allowed, even if there is less liquid in it.
